Temple Sinai’s 9th Annual Mitzvah Day on Sunday, April 3, 2011 was another huge success. We had a great turnout, with about 130 members participating. Below are comments from some of the project leaders and a few pictures. Thanks to everyone for your participation!

“The Ronald McDonald site went great. We prepared 6 lasagnas, three huge salads, and frosted and decorated 100 cupcakes. I had a fantastic group of volunteers that got everything finished in about an hour and a half. The food was delivered to the House where they were scheduled to have a community dinner sponsored by Temple Sinai.”

“The Cradles to Crayons Mitzvah Day project went really well. Our project was assembling fleece blankets for young children. We had over 20 people working on the blankets and everyone had a great time. Our group made 21 blankets!”

“The Birthday Wishes project went very well.  We had 11 adults and children assembling about 120 goody bags. This was a perfect number for the task.”

“The Mitzvah Day project at the Anna Bissonnette House went very well. Our team of 10 volunteers served lasagna, salad, garlic bread and cookies to the residents, who enjoyed the food and most of all the visit from our temple members. Our teenage volunteers prepared enough delicious lasagnas to leave leftovers in the kitchen refrigerator. It was wonderful to see so many temple members of all ages come together to make a contribution to our community. I look forward to working with you again next year!”

“Our project at the Coolidge House was splendid!  Following a rehearsal with Cantor Toubes in the sanctuary, we took a lovely walk over to Webster Street where the Junior Choir performed for a large group of residents. The children sang beautifully, as did Cantor Toubes, who performed a solo. Accompanist Hannah Shields performed a medley and Daniel Ruben led us all in a group sing-a-long. The residents especially enjoyed his solo rendition of “Yerushalayim Shel Zahav.”  It was a lovely and uplifting afternoon all around, and we were especially grateful to the Coolidge House for accommodating us at the last minute. Before we left, the residents told us to come back as soon as we could. It was a real mitzvah.”

“The Evans Park event went great. Not only did the residents have a terrific afternoon, but we were surprised to learn that one of the participants was Ben Goldfarb, former president of temple Sinai. The kids definitely felt that they had brought joy to the residents who participated, and the staff was very pleased with the result.”

“We enjoyed preparing 15 ‘Passover in box’ sets for children at Children’s Hospital. Each box included materials to create a seder plate and matzah cover, play dough, two hand-made word searches, Red Sox pens, Elijah story, and some Passover picture and information pages. Each family worked so diligently and with so much passion and energy to make every box look special and filled with love. I’m sure these boxes will help to enhance the Passover celebrations of these children and their families!”
