| "Rainbow Weekend" at Temple Sinai Brookline, Nov 30-Dec 2 2007
“Rainbow Weekend” at Temple Sinai, Brookline, Friday, November 30 through Sunday, December 2:
Temple Sinai in Brookline welcomes the public to a weekend of events celebrating and examining the experiences of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Jews. Outspoken leader of the Jewish gay rights movement Rabbi Toba Spitzer will speak at Erev Shabbat services at Temple Sinai on Friday, November 30, beginning at 7:30 pm. Rabbi Spitzer is currently president of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association, and serves Congregation Dorshei Tzedek, a Reconstructionist congregation in West Newton.
On Sunday morning, December 2, Temple Sinai will host a screening of the film “Keep Not Silent,” followed by a discussion led by Rabbi Karen Landy. Coffee and bagels will be served at 10:30 am, and the film begins at 11 am. “Keep Not Silent,” winner of the Israeli Oscar for Best Documentary as well as eight international awards, documents the clandestine struggle of three women fighting for their right to love within their beloved Orthodox communities in Jerusalem. All three are pious, religiously committed women. All three are lesbians, and members of a secret support group called the “Ortho-Dykes.”
