| Rabbi Vogel Biography
Rabbi Andrew Vogel was ordained as a rabbi from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 1998. He served Temple Kol Emeth in Marietta, GA, for two years before coming to the Boston area in 2000, where he served as associate rabbi at Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, MA until June 2004. With his strong interest in music and prayer, Rabbi Vogel played a key role in shaping creative worship at Temple Shir Tikva, among his many other rabbinic activities.
Rabbi Vogel joined Temple Sinai in July 2004 as our rabbinic leader.
Rabbi Vogel graduated from Brandeis University and studied at other institutions of higher learning, including The Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. During his student years, Rabbi Vogel was the Family Educator at Central Synagogue in Manhattan and student rabbi at Temple Israel in Laconia, New Hampshire, and held a rabbinic internship at CLAL - The Center for Leadership and Learning. Rabbi Vogel grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, was a regional president of NFTY, the Reform youth movement, attended Reform Jewish camps, and lived for one year at Kibbutz Lotan, one of the Reform kibbutzim.
Rabbi Vogel is married to Martha Hausman, who is trained as a lawyer, and they have two daughters, Rosa, born in 2000, and Hallel, born in 2003. Rabbi Vogel can be seen at Fenway Park rooting for the Red Sox (against anyone but the Cleveland Indians), and enjoys reading, playing guitar, and spending time with his family.
