| Grade 3
My name is Noa Silver, and this is my fourth year teaching at Temple Sinai. Currently, I am a senior at Harvard University. Our curriculum this year will focus mainly on learning the Hebrew aleph-bet. We will be learning one, two or even three new letters each day in our textbook "The New Hebrew Primer." Our study of the Hebrew alphabet will culminate in a Siyum HaSefer, a special Shabbat morning service celebrating its completion. Please mark your calendars now for this milestone event, which will be held on Saturday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m. This year will also place a strong emphasis on Judaic studies, and especially in becoming familiar with biblical stories. Our primary text will be "The Explorer's Bible". We will use a separate text to learn about Israel, where we will discover the culture, society, religion and physical beauty of our Jewish homeland. In addition, before each holiday we will dedicate a significant amount of time to learning the customs and importance of the upcoming celebration. As you can see, our days are packed with educational and creative material, and so attendance is crucial. In addition to Hebrew and Judaic studies, we will be paying a great deal of attention to Tzedakah, which in Hebrew means "justice" and is often used to refer to charity. We will collect Tzedakah at the beginning of every class and the money collected throughout the year will be donated to an organization chosen by the third grade. In this way the students will learn what it is like to make a significant difference and contribution to the world. I am so looking forward to the upcoming year!
