rabbivogelTemple Sinai is fortunate to enjoy a very stable rabbinical tradition. In July 2004, we welcomed Rabbi Andrew Vogel, our first new rabbi in 28 years, ushering in an era of reflection and excitement. Rabbi Vogel comes to us from Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, where he served for four years as the associate rabbi.

Raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Rabbi Vogel and his wife Martha Hausman, a lawyer, live in Newton with their two young daughters, Rosa and Hallel. Rabbi Vogel is a graduate of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, and of Brandeis University. He is a talented singer-songwriter who accompanies himself during services on the guitar, and is a passionate baseball fan.

One of Rabbi Vogel’s priorities for Temple Sinai is leading the congregation through a sustained period of examination and reflection of our worship and music. He believes that Reform Judaism is in a period of exciting growth, with an emphasis on spirituality and adapting ancient traditions to our modern times. “My vision of Reform Judaism is one that is welcoming to all Jews, and open to anyone who wishes to incorporate the Jewish tradition into his or her own life.”
