Shabbat

The oneg after Friday night Shabbat services

At Temple Sinai, Shabbat is an opportunity to step back, breathe deeply, and renew the spirit. Through beautiful music, moving prayer, an inspiring D’var Torah or interactive sermon, the warmth of friends and community.  An Oneg Shabbat with food, drink and friends follows each service.  Everyone is welcome to join us to celebrate the beauty and joy of Shabbat!

Friday evenings

We gather on Friday evenings to welcome Shabbat in our beautiful Sanctuary, led by our rabbis and cantorial soloist.  Once a month, we have a Shabbat Band with guitars, clarinet, violin, drums, ukulele and vocals.  An opportunity to learn from the week’s Torah portion is provided by our rabbis with an inspiring D’var Torah, and frequently, we will welcome a guest speaker, or will hear from our Religious School students who have prepared their own group D’var Torah.

Our Friday schedule generally follows this schedule (but please check our calendar):

  • 1st Friday of the month, 7:30pm service
  • 2nd Friday of month, 6:00pm Shabbat@Six service, with our Shabbat band, with a congregational Shabbat dinner following the service (RSVP requested)
  • 3rd Friday of the month, 7:30pm service
  • 4th Friday of the month, 6:00pm service
  • 5th Friday of the month, 7:30pm service

All are welcome to join us on Shabbat evenings for these services and Shabbat dinners!

Shabbat mornings

We offer a variety of opportunities on Shabbat mornings at Temple Sinai, including study, worship, activities for families with young children, Torah study and discussion, and Shabbat yoga.

  • On the 1st Saturday of each month, at 9:30 a.m., we host our Community Shabbat Morning Minyan, with Temple Sinai members reading Torah and Haftarah, leading the Torah discussion or D’var Torah, an opportunity to meditate and pray as a community
  • Shabbat worship in our Sanctuary begins at 10:30 a.m. most Saturdays of the month, including a Bar/Bat Mitzvah service, led by Rabbi Vogel
  • Once a month, we hold Shabbat Morning Torah Yoga at 9:30 a.m., led by Rabbi Shoshana Friedman and a Yoga instructor, an opportunity for a mind-body-heart Shabbat experience with meditations from the week’s Torah portion
  • Twice a month (the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month), at 9:00 a.m., Rabbi Vogel leads a Shabbat Morning Torah Study, a discussion of Jewish ideas as they emerge from the week’s Torah portion. We begin with a light breakfast and singing. All are welcome!
  • Once a month, we hold Shabbat Mishpacha for families with young children in our Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m., an interactive service with singing and storytelling.

Everyone is welcome to join us for these Shabbat morning opportunities!  We are delighted to have you worship with us. If you are new to our congregation, please introduce yourself to a greeter, other members, or our rabbis. We would love to meet you.
